Laptop Insurance Cover - Should you Bother?

Laptop computers are very adaptable. They are used in so many different situations, but as a consequence their flexibility can lead to them getting damaged. Laptops can be taken to so many different places; indeed, many people choose to take them on vacation, but with this comes the added risk of them incurring significant damage.

Is there any real point in taking out laptop insurance, when the home insurance policy you would have anyway offers some form of insurance cover for your computer? The simple answer is yes, as quite often, and what many people do not realise id the home insurance policy has a very high excess fee to pay in the event of a claim. There are many computer insurance providers around, so take some time to consider each one carefeully prior to the implementation of your policy.

Laptops are coming down in price all the time; even though claiming on a household insurance policy would replace your laptop cost, taking out dedicated laptop computer insurance would work out cheaper over the year. The premiums are certainly much cheaper, as is the excess fee that would need out paid in the event of a claim.

Ok, what is the risk to computers? If you took your laptop on holiday I would suggest the main risk would be accidental damage. Even transporting the laptop to the train station would be deemed a risk, so extreme caution would need to be suggested. Appropriate packaging for the computer would certainly be a must.

With the progression of modern technology, you can listen to music and even watch films on your laptop computer.; a word of caution though,  drinking a beer or coffee whilst on your laptop subsequently increases the risk as liquid spillages is one of the most common factors of laptop breakage and would damage it significantly.

Laptop cover with liquid damages comes as standard with most laptop insurance providers; however, look carefully at your policy first to make sure the cover is appropriate. Damage to laptops by liquid spillage is common, and most of the home insurance providers do not offer this protection for laptop damage caused by liquid spills.

So when and if you actually get to your hotel with your laptop intact and not broken in anyway, the next concern is the chance of it becoming accidentally damaged. Accidental damage could happen in an inordinate amount of ways; accidental damage through dropping it as you unpack your suitcases is certainly a risk and accidental damage is indeed something that specialist laptop insurance will protect against.

So is it worth investing in a specialist laptop insurance cover? My advice is that if you have an expensive laptop, and you are a frequent traveller and need to take your laptop away, then it is something worth considering.  Look around online and see what deals are available and ascertain whether or not your home insurance policy offers the appropriate protection first.

There are an inordinate amount of insurance providers online that offer laptop insurance and indeed other insurance products such as gadget cover. Simply search any major search engine and you will find the specialist laptop computer insurance  accordingly
