Understanding Futons And Their Anatomy

In case you have never owned a futon before, then a shopping for one can be quite difficult for you. It’s safe to assume that we’re all familiar with what’s needed when you purchase a new bed. What you need is a frame, mattress and some sheets and pillows. And to be honest, a cheap foam mattress is not really that different from our futon bed. We will try to figure out what exactly you can choose from when it comes to different parts of a futon.

Frame is the first part of any futon. Futon frames are designed to move from a sofa into a bed. A wide variety of designs is available in order to accomplish this. There are two models that most people know about: bi-fold and tri-fold frames. Bi-fold frames feature arms on the ends of the futon frame, two stretchers between the arms and a seat and back section. These two sections move to perform the operation of the futon frame hence the name bi-fold.

Tri-fold futon frames also can feature a set of arms on the ends of a futon frame, two stretchers and a rack system made up of three decks that move back and forth to perform the operation of the futon frame. The name tri-fold futon frames comes from these three sections that perform the movement. We make frames by using back and seat section with metal rails. Some are made completely from wood while some other frames are made using a combination of wood and metal seat/back sections.

There are plenty of different designs that are used for arms and a lot of different wood types and finishes you can choose from. Picking the right futon frame will ensure that you enjoy years of use with a quality constructed frame.

The second part of a futon is the mattress. Duck twin coverings were encasing cotton batting in the first days of a futon mattress. A lot of it changed and the design is improved compared to models being made 20 years ago. You can find a lot of models that include memory foam mattresses, innerspring coils, high density foams and new blends of batting. To have the comfortable bed, you need to find a good cheap futon that will a be fine combination of a frame and mattress.
